Sofia is an intuitive abstract painter based in Richmond, VA. For all her life she’s been inspired by improvisation, the ocean, and the art of “making things up.” Raised on the coast, surrounded by music and visual arts in Gloucester, MA, home to one of the oldest art colonies in the United States. It was here that she was first exposed to artistic individuals living freely and authentically.

Her paintings are a reflection of life and living in imperfect connection with spirit. Her work explores themes related to psychosis and spirituality, and center on the idea of embracing the unknown.

Artist Statement

My recent work is an expansion on grief and an expedition into the spiritual realm. Reflecting on my own musings, thoughts and feelings, the work is created intuitively and thoughtfully. Energy, opposition and improvisation are important. Movement, mark making and trust are integral parts of the process. My work serves to help understand the things of life that don’t make sense.
